Ecologists fear Antarctic krill crisis: Nature News

Fisheries scientist has long being debating whether top-down forcing might be a potential cause for fisheries collapse. Although evidence varies from place to place and depending on the species studied, the recent boost of krill fisheries supports the Pauly and colleges idea’s of fishing down food webs. Quirin Schiermeier shortly summarize the current challenges for the krill fishery governance and points out:

According to one estimate, the number of krill in the Southern Ocean may have dropped by 80% since the 1970s.
