Visualization: Max Planck Research Network

Max Planck Research Networks Prototype from onformative on Vimeo.

Max Planck Institute recently released a neat visualization of their collaboration with other research institutes and universities around the world. Node size corresponds to the number of papers published by each institutions while links represent the number of papers jointly authored. In addition, the right panels show internal and internal collaborations as well as their geographical location.  On the panel below, eight topic categories are shown serving as a description of the collaboration amongst institutes working with Max Planck.

An inspiring work that worth to apply to my own institution, Stockholm Resilience Centre. But even more interesting, to think on how to extract meaning of network visualizations on regime shifts context. Some of the software used includes processing, java and gephi.
